William J. Cullen

William J. Cullen, age 83, of Maynard, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, May 22, 2024.  He was the loving husband of Irene M. (Poirier) Cullen. 

William was born in Arlington, Massachusetts on March 23, 1941, to the late William and Virginia (Covello) Cullen.  He was raised and educated in Arlington, graduating from Arlington High School, class of 1959. William and Irene married on September 12, 1965.  The couple settled in Maynard in 1968 to raise their growing family together. 

William worked as an Electrical Engineer for the General Electric Corporation in the Aerospace Division starting in 1967, retiring in 1993.  William worked for Charles Stark Draper Laboratory in Cambridge for the past twenty-five years and he took great pride in his work.  

Family was most important to William.  He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather.  William cherished his time spent at his family beach house in Hampton Beach, NH.  He enjoyed watching the TV show, Columbo and following the Boston Red Sox and New England Patriots.  William was a Trustee for the Maynard Public Library.  Helping develop the old Roosevelt school to the new Maynard Public Library.  William was a member of the Lions Club and the American Legion.  He also enjoyed playing the harmonica and riding his motorcycles. 

William is survived by his wife, Irene Cullen of Maynard, MA; his son, William B. Cullen of Acton, MA; his daughter, Dawn M. Lindfors and husband Robert J. of Maynard, MA; his grandchildren, Kyle Lindfors and Krysten Gordon; his sister, Mary Lombardo of Fitchburg, MA; his nephews, Ricky Pelrine and wife Lori; Bobby Pelrine.  

Family and friends will gather to honor and remember William on Wednesday, May 29, 2024, from 4:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. at the Fowler-Kennedy Funeral Home, 42 Concord Street, Maynard. His Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Thursday, May 30, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Bridget’s Parish, One Percival Street, Maynard. Burial will be private.
