Virginia M. (Hjelm) Devoll

March 15, 1915 — November 28, 2014

Virginia M. (Hjelm) Devoll age 99 of Arlington formerly of Sudbury passed away on Friday, November 28, 2014 at Park Avenue Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Arlington. She was the wife of the late James L. Devoll.

Born in Hingham on March 15, 1915 she was the daughter of the late Carl and Amy (Young) Hjelm.

Virginia was raised and educated in Barre, MA, graduating from Barre High School in 1933. She attended the Leonard Morse Nursing School in Natick, MA.
Upon graduating she married and soon settled in Sudbury.

Virginia worked for many years as a Registered Nurse, upon retirement she spent many happy years in her much loved Sun City, AZ, as well as Petersham, MA and Edwards, CO. She greatly enjoyed spending time with her family, playing cards, was an avid reader and most of all a diehard Red Sox fan.

She is survived by her children, James L. Devoll of Framingham, Peter Devoll and his wife Margie of Petersham and Priscilla (Missy) Cox and her husband Jack of Edwards, CO. She is also survived by 5 grandchildren, Andrew, Christopher and Timothy Devoll, and John and Craig Cox, 6 great-grandchildren, Stephen, Brendon, Gianna, Kylie, Julia and Charlie Devoll, her sisters Evelyn Jordan of PA and Doris Abbott of CO.

She is preceded in death by her sister Genevieve Shipp of NC, her brothers Chester and Everett Hjelm of AZ, her daughter-in-law Nancy Devoll of Framingham and infant great-grandson Peter Devoll of Sudbury.

There will be a private graveside service in the spring at the Old Town Cemetery in Sudbury.
