Saro Picciotto, 91, of Sudbury and formerly of Saugus, died Saturday, November 26, after a brief illness.
He was born in Everett, son of the late Carmelo and Caterina (Arigo) Picciotto. Cherished husband of 57 years to the late Catherine "Kay" (Monahan). Beloved father of Catherine Picciotto and her husband John Lyons of Sudbury, James Picciotto and his wife Nicole of Cotuit and the late Saro Picciotto and his wife Maureen of Lynnfield. Devoted grandfather of Alec, Jason, Alyse, Nicholas, Alexa and James.
He was afflicted with the rare disease "Osteomyelitis" at age 11 and was thought at the time to not have a long life expectancy....surprise!! Saro loved spending time with his family. He treasured the time spent traveling with Kay and the family. He especially enjoyed celebrating the Italian traditions with his seven siblings their spouses, and his fourteen nieces and nephews. He continued and passed down those traditions to his three children their spouses, his six grandchildren including extended family and friends. He loved cooking anything Italian and made enough in case someone should drop by. Everyone was always welcome. He loved music, especially the big band era and Italian classics. He loved playing solitaire on his computer, world affairs and watching 60 Minutes and All in the Family. In his later years you would find Saro sharing jokes with everyone he would meet.
Relatives and friends will gather to honor and remember Saro on Sat., Dec. 3rd from 10:00 – 11:00 am followed by a funeral service at 11:00 am at the Fowler Kennedy Funeral Home, 42 Concord St., MAYNARD. Burial will follow at New Town Cemetery, Sudbury.
