Roy R. Mason

March 2, 1946 — August 24, 2025

Maynard

Roy passed away on Sunday evening at Emerson Hospital visiting with many loved ones over the weekend. He was the son of the late Joseph and June (O’Neal) Mason. He is reunited not only with his parents but his brothers Robert Allan, Joseph Mason, sister Carol (Mason) Cunningham, father-in-law Armand Galdi, mother in-law Frances (Frazer) Galdi and other family and friends.

Roy was a true Maynard lifer; he was born at his aunt’s house on Powder Mill Rd. being as impatient as ever and not wanting to wait to get to the hospital. He grew up on Summer St. surrounded by extended family and working the Mason Farm. He had many stories from a very active and interesting life. He was a mechanic by trade, at one point owning a service/gas station on Main St. He would always be working on things in our driveway whether it be something of ours or helping a friend. He worked with his brothers as a truck driver traveling the country, at Nuclear Metals and ended his careers building project adventures and school gymnasiums throughout the Northeast.

He loved adventure no matter what the season. Constantly riding his Harleys everywhere around the U.S including a trip to Alaska. He went to many fly-ins and was surrounded by others who loved to fly and build ultralights and other small aircraft. He spent lots of time at Crowe Island, Stow Airport and originally at his Uncle Sid’s air strip off Summer St. Winters were also busy planning and enjoying numerous snowmobile trips. He enjoyed his vacations in New Hampshire, Maine and Florida. All these adventures were shared with family and so many friends made along the way, never a dull moment.

Roy leaves behind his wife just shy of 57 years Frances L. (Galdi) Mason of Maynard who never gave up and cared for him especially these last 4 years. His children Deb (Mason) Mealey and husband Jeff of Maynard, Bonnie Mason and husband Rudi Tillmann of Medfield, Steve Mason and wife Rose of Merrimack, NH, Mike Mason and wife Liz of Lunenburg and John Mason of Oakland, CA. His grandchildren, who over time had learned to take most stories he told with a grain of salt, Kayla, Chad, Shea, Paige, Katherine, Max, Zack and Ryan and great grandchild Cole. He will also be missed by his sister Janet Mason of Marlboro and many brother/sister in-laws, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Family and friends will gather to honor and remember Roy on Saturday, September 6, 2025, from 10:00 a.m.- 12:00 p.m. at the Fowler-Kennedy Funeral Home, 42 Concord Street, Maynard. A Prayer service will start at 11:45 a.m. A celebration of life will follow at the Maynard-Clinton Lodge of Elks 34 Powder Mill Rd, Maynard, MA 01754.
