Ronald C. Smith Jr., age 62, of Maynard, MA, passed away peacefully Thursday, February 15, 2018 surrounded by his loving family. He was the loving husband of Gail C. (Bowes) Smith.
Born in Houston, Texas on May 30, 1955, he is the son of Carolyn C. (Clay) Smith and the late Ronald Clifton Smith Sr. Ronald graduated from Plymouth High School, class of 1973. He attended the University of New Hampshire and graduated with his Bachelor's Degree in Mathematics, class of 1977.
Ronald worked for the Raytheon Company as a defense contractor for thirty-eight years, retiring in June of 2016.
Family was most important to Ronald. He also had a passion for music and loved playing the trumpet. He was a member of the Trinity Brass Quartet from 1988 to 2016. He played in the Atlantic Wind Symphony in South Lancaster. He was also a member of The Concord Band from 2006 to 2016. Gail and Ronald met at one of his concerts at the Fruitlands Museum and later married November 17, 2012. Ronald was an active member of the Sudbury United Methodist Church for twenty-nine years and enjoyed volunteer trips with the church to build homes.
He is survived by his loving wife Gail C. Smith of Maynard, MA; daughters, Alison and husband John Condon of Acton, MA; Virginia and husband Justin Woods of Laconia, NH; mother, Carolyn B. Smith of Campton, NH; Step children, James and wife Bridget Green of New Jersey, Scot and wife Guna Green of New York, Jamie Smith of Massachusetts, Daniel and wife Melanie of Massachusetts; his beloved grandchildren David, Elizabete, Thomas, Leland, Eleanor, Viktorija, Lennox and Alexander; siblings, Peggy and husband Kenneth Smith of Center Harbor, NH, James Smith of Thailand, Shari and husband Randall Margeson of Campton, NH.
Family and friends will gather to honor and remember Ronald on Monday, February 19, 2018 from 12:00-2:00 p.m at the Sudbury United Methodist Church 251 Old Sudbury Road, Sudbury. His funeral service will be celebrated at 2:00 p.m following the visitation. His burial will be Saturday, April 28, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. Riverside cemetery 62 Fairgrounds Rd, Plymouth, New Hampshire.
