Dick, 98, of Cincinnati, Ohio was born in Grafton, West Virginia, to Walter and Ruth Stitt. He and his beloved wife Mazie—married for 70 years—raised three sons and later enjoyed the company of four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Tom lives in Redwood City, California, his son Steven and wife Michelle live in Silver Spring, Maryland. Paul and his wife Christine and their children Mary and Michael live in Loveland, Ohio. And David and his husband Alex live in Alcalá de Henares, Spain, near their foster son Victor and his children Alexandro and Violeta.
A World War II veteran, Dick earned the World War II Victory Ribbon while serving as a Sergeant overseeing a motor pool. He graduated from Marietta College with a degree in Petroleum Engineering. Dick was a member of the Alpha Sigma Phi fraternity along with two uncles, his dad, and brother. He went on to a distinguished career as a senior executive at an international insurance company in Boston.
Dick’s retirement years were defined by his love of antique cars. He restored numerous Model A Fords, held leadership roles in the Model A community, and delighted in long, leisurely tours across the country and overseas with Mazie and close friends. He was steady in friendship, exact in his restorations, and always delighted in a good road trip.
Dick will be remembered and missed for his craftsmanship, his dry humor, and the quiet constancy he offered those closest to him.
