Rich Davison died at age 85 on September 8 after many years with Alzheimer’s Disease. He was the son of Alice Howe Parmenter Davison and Theodore Remer Davison, Jr. and brother to David Parmenter Davison and Theodore Raymond Davison (deceased). He is survived by his loving wife, Sheila (Moynihan); children Jeffrey (Ann) and Suzanne Dongarra (Bruce); his grandchildren Kate Davison (Seth Cohen), Corey Davison (Luca Koritsanszky), Jessica Adams (Evan), Wes Dongarra, and Allyson Dongarra and great grandchildren Riley Adams and Ari Cohen. He enjoyed camping and backpacking throughout New England and Canada with his wife and children and traveling with friends. He loved music and reading.
Rich believed strongly in voluntary engagement. He said “My joy is working with people” for the community and a better environment. In Sudbury, MA he was a member of the Planning Board for seven years and the Lincoln-Sudbury Regional School Committee for six years. His involvement with non-profit organizations included 11 years as a Sudbury Valley Trustee; 23 years as a Longfellow’s Wayside Inn Trustee, including 10 years as President; 30 years as a Trustee of the Sudbury Foundation which led to many satisfying associations with regional and national environmental organizations as well as local civic groups. He was an active member of First Parish of Sudbury Unitarian Universalist for over 50 years which included chairing three Capital Campaigns and being a long-time member of the choir.
A Memorial Service to celebrate Rich’s remarkable life will be October 5 at 10 a.m. at First Parish of Sudbury. Donations in his memory can be made to the Wayside Inn Foundation (wayside.org) or First Parish of Sudbury, 327 Concord Road, memo line “Building Preservation Fund” which is restricted to preservation of the historic building.
