It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Nick A. Phelan, who passed away on Saturday, April 22, 2023. He was 60.
Nick was born in Dayton, Ohio on December 27, 1962, the son of Diane A. (Annunziata) Phelan and the late Charles A. Phelan III. Raised and educated in Maynard, he graduated from Maynard High School, class of 1981. He was a heavy equipment operator with the Local 4 for many years and worked on the Big Dig Project in Boston. Nick was a longtime member of the Maynard-Clinton Lodge of Elks.
Nick was a true Boston sports fan, but had a love in his heart for the Bruins. You could also catch him watching NASCAR. He was a passionate outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting and fishing in his spare time. Nick had a larger-than-life personality, and his sense of humor was infectious. He was one of the funniest people you would ever meet and if you were around him, you were guaranteed to be laughing. He loved spending time with his friends and could often be found enjoying a cold Budweiser and a shot of Jameson while playing Keno. Nick loved to dance, even though he had the worst dancing skills, especially if it was Eminem or Marky Mark and the Funky Bunch. Most of all, Nick was a proud dad to his children. He loved them deeply and was always there for them, providing love, support, and guidance whenever they needed it.
He will be forever loved and missed by his children, Brytanie A. Phelan and Nicholas R. Phelan, both of Fitchburg; his mother, Diane A. Phelan of Maynard; his fiancée, Jennifer Martell of Maynard; his sister, Tracy Elder and husband, Joe of Maynard; his niece, Krysten Gordon and husband, David of Peabody; He is also survived by many cousins, extended family members and close friends. He was predeceased by his father, Charles A. Phelan III, and sister, Alison Lee Phelan.
Family and friends will gather to honor and remember Nick on Thursday, April 27, 2023, from 4:00-7:00 p.m. at the Fowler Kennedy Funeral Home, 42 Concord Street, Maynard. His Graveside Service will be celebrated on Friday, April 28, 2023, at 11:00 a.m. at Glenwood Cemetery, 260 Great Road, Maynard, MA 01754.
