Newton Saarinen, age, 87 of Sterling, passed away on Wednesday, April 16, 2025, at his home.

Born in Concord, Massachusetts on February 26, 1938, he was the son of the late Waino Arthur and Pauline Ann Duxbury (Newton) Saarinen of Maynard, MA. In his early years Newton was raised in Framingham and Maynard, graduating from Maynard High School, class of 1955. In 1958, Newton enlisted in the United States Army and proudly served his country in the Korean War. After his honorable discharge in 1961, Newton married the love of his life, Constance Mae (Lowell) Saarinen in 1964, and moved to College Park, Maryland. There, he graduated from the University of Maryland with a Bachelor’s Degree. A passion for teaching, Newton taught history and psychology for thirty-three years at Acton-Boxborough Regional High School in Acton, Massachusetts. He was also the advisor of the Chess Club. While teaching, he earned his Master’s Degrees at Salem State College and Boston State College.

Newton enjoyed spending time in East Dennis, Cape Cod with his wife and family. Newton’s hobbies included writing fiction and fishing off the jetty at Cold Storage Beach. He is predeceased by his wife Constance (2013) and brother John W. Saarinen (2018). He leaves his daughter, Rebecca Jean Saarinen of Sterling: his daughter, Jennifer Saarinen Jourdain and her husband Joseph Jourdain of Holden; his grandchildren: Shawna Duguay, Dylan Safford, Luc Jourdain and Alexandre Jourdain; his sister Paula and husband Rudolph Nicoletti of Walpole; his brother’s wife, Christa Saarinen of Stow, as well as many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.

Family and friends will gather to honor and remember Newton on Saturday, April 26, 2025, from 10:00 am- 11:00 am at Fowler-Kennedy Funeral Home, 42 Concord Street, Maynard, MA. His Funeral Service will follow at 11:00 am., and burial with U.S Army Military Honors at Glenwood Cemetery, Maynard.

Donations in his memory may be made to the Conant Free Public Library, 4 Meetinghouse Hill Road, Sterling, MA 01564.
