Milton P. Slabysz, age 92, of Maynard, passed away peacefully on Thursday, April 17, 2025.
Born in Concord, Massachusetts, on October 12, 1932, he was the son of the late Stanley and Mary (Siuta) Slabysz, and loving husband of Elizabeth Anne (Freeze) Slabysz. Milton was raised and educated in Maynard, graduating from Maynard High School, class of 1950. He served two years as a Corporal in the Army Unit System at Nike Missile Site, SF-88 in Presidio, CA, near the Golden Gate Bridge during the Korean War.
Milton and Elizabeth married at the Gate of Heaven Church, South Boston, on September 22, 1962, and settled in Maynard on Newton Drive, where they raised their three sons.
Milton spent his career as a Machinist sculpting an incalculable number of billets of stainless and aluminum. He began at Avco in Lowell, MA, where part of his work included crafting heat shields for the Apollo space missions. Then, he briefly worked at Precision Metals in Acton. He spent the rest of his career, and eventually retired from Raytheon in Waltham, where he helped create the Patriot missiles.
A true enthusiast of internal combustion engines, Milton maintained and piloted a variety of them. In his younger days he rebuilt a WWII-era Piper Cub aircraft, which he often flew to Vermont for bow and rifle hunting and fishing trips. When not in Vermont, or in his plane, he focused his energy on lakes and the ocean, home to his Crownline ski boat and Larson Cuddy.
Milton and Elizabeth loved to travel. They cherished their vacations in and around New England, to Provincetown on The Cape, Lake Sebago, Maine, and Killington, Vermont. Their love of travel also brought them further afield to the beautiful and warm island of Saint Martin. Milton enjoyed boating and fishing for trout, Stripers, and Blues. He also enjoyed spending time in his vegetable garden. In his later years, he loved going to his granddaughter's dance recitals, and his full-time hobby was working on his ‘77 Amerigo camper & '93 SuperCab Ford pick-up truck.
Milton is survived by his wife, Elizabeth Slabysz of Maynard; his children, Peter Slabysz and partner Sommer Aweidah of Medford, MA; Robert Slabysz of Littleton, MA; Paul Slabysz of Maynard, MA; his granddaughter, Alexa; and his sister, Stella Buscemi.
