Mary F. (Panetta) Thomas, age 89, of Sudbury, passed away peacefully on Saturday, June 6, 2026. She was the cherished wife of the late Donald R. Thomas.
Mary was born in Cambridge, Massachusetts on June 25, 1936, daughter of the late Pasquale and Rose M. (Napoli) Panetta. She was raised and educated in Lexington, graduating with straight A’s from Lexington High School, class of 1954. Mary continued her education at Lasell University, class of 1956. Mary and Donald married on June 24, 1961. They moved to Sudbury in 1968 where they raised their family.
Mary worked as the Executive Administrator for the CEO at Digital Equipment Corporation from 1980-1998.
Family was most important to Mary. She enjoyed gardening, cooking and baking for loved ones, and spending time at the beach. Mary was passionate about her community. She enjoyed her monthly Book Club luncheons with the Bookies. She was a member of Sudbury Villagers, a docent at the Hosmer House, and volunteered at the Food Panty and Senior Center.
Mary is survived by her daughters, Donna and husband David Scimone of Hopkinton, MA: Christina and husband Mark Hewitt of Camarillo, CA; her adored grandchildren, Ashley and Allison Scimone; her brother, Paul Panetta and wife Mary Ann of Lexington, MA; her nephew, Paul Panetta, Jr; her niece Lisa Panetta and Juli Dee Juneau of LA; her sister-in-law, Judi Lawrence of SC.
Family and friends will gather to honor and remember Mary on Thursday, June 11, 2026, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Fowler-Kennedy Funeral Home 42 Concord Street, Maynard, MA. Her Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday, June 12, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at Our Lady of Fatima Church; The Ascension Parish of Sudbury, 160 Concord Road, Sudbury. Burial will be private.
