Mary Hudner Hammer, 95, passed away peacefully on December 19, 2025, in Fall River, Massachusetts. Born on June 15, 1930, to Thomas Jerome Hudner and Mary Elizabeth (Brown) Hudner, Mary was raised in Fall River and educated in the city’s public schools before attending Walnut Hill School and later Bennett College.
Following several years working in New York City, Mary returned to Massachusetts and began what became a distinguished 25-year career as an executive assistant at Arthur D. Little, the international management consulting firm. In 1981, she married Thruston Hammer, and the two made their home in Stow, Massachusetts, for 22 years before relocating to Concord for the next 22 years—a community that Mary greatly cherished.
Mary devoted much of her life to family and a close circle of lifelong friends. She and her husband spent many joyful days in Westport Harbor, Massachusetts, where Mary had spent her summers since childhood. An avid and spirited tennis player, she was a familiar presence on the courts of both the Cambridge Tennis Club and the Acoaxet Club, where her competitive energy and love of the game were well known.
Mary was predeceased by her husband, Thruston Hammer, and by her brothers Thomas, James, Richard, and Philip Hudner, sisters-in-law Florence and Sally Hudner and her niece Elizabeth Hudner Weaver. She is survived by her stepdaughters, Christine Korhn (Stephen) and Linda Fraser, and by her beloved nieces and nephews: Katherine Hudner Howd, Edward, James, Stephanie, Timothy, Philip, Ann, and Thomas Hudner, Stanford Smith, Shannon Gustafson and Kelly Fernandez. She is also survived by her sisters-in-law Karen and Georgea Hudner. Mary will be remembered for her inquisitive nature, sharp wit, kindness and love for family.
A memorial service held on Thursday, January 8th at 12pm at the Fowler-Kennedy Funeral Home in Maynard, MA. The service will be followed by a luncheon at the Wayside Inn in Sudbury for those who would like to gather and share memories of Mary. A private burial will take place at a later date.
