Mary Ellen Connell

July 25, 1949 — October 4, 2016

Mary Ellen Connell, 67, of Maynard, died of cancer on October 4th, 2016. She was the loving wife of Katharine Reynolds. Born in Boston on July 25, 1949, she was the daughter of the late Mary (Engel) Connell and Paul J. Connell, sister to the late Paul R. Connell.

Raised in Dorchester and Humarock, Mary Ellen attended Cathedral High School in South Boston. She then attended Boston State College and graduated with a bachelor's degree in English.

Mary Ellen worked for 35 years as a technical writer, first at Digital Equipment Corporation, then at Intel, and finally retiring from IBM, to help with the care of her grandchildren. She had interests in singing, bird watching, hiking, and cooking. She loved spending time with her family and friends. She had a generous heart, a wonderful sense of humor, and was quick to laugh.

Along with her wife of ten years, Mary Ellen is survived by her daughters and their partners: Sarah G. Mulrooney, along with her fiancée Rebekah Jordan, of Salisbury, CT; and Catherine (Mulrooney) Bell and her husband, John P. Bell, of Maynard, MA. She is also survived by her cherished grandchildren, John and Grace Bell, and many dear friends.

A wake will be held from 6 to 8 pm, on October 14th, at the Fowler-Kennedy Funeral Home, 42 Concord St., Maynard, MA. A memorial service will be held at 1 pm on October 15th at First Church Unitarian, 19 Foster St., in Littleton, MA.

Because Mary Ellen loved animals and nature, a memorial fund has been set up in her name at the Massachusetts Audubon Society: http://www.massaudubon.org/honorary-memorial-gifts.
