Martha Lynn Muffoletto (Erkkinen), 63, of Shirley, MA passed away peacefully with her husband, Hugh, and children, Zach, Isaac & Lilly by her side on August 29, 2022 after her courageous journey with cancer.
Martha was born in Alexandria, LA on November 14, 1958. Martha was preceded in death by her father, Joseph Erkkinen; mother, Deborah (Sewall) Finnegan; son, Hugh S. Muffoletto Jr.; brothers, Peter Erkkinen and Paul Erkkinen; sister, Tamar E. Vernatter. She is lovingly remembered by her husband, Hugh Muffoletto; son, Zachary Muffoletto and wife, Kat Steele of Turners Falls, MA; son, Isaac Muffoletto of Shirley, MA; daughter, Lilly Muffoletto of Leominster, MA; sister, Rose Merrill and husband, Glenn of Clinton, MA; brother, Philip Erkkinen of Derry, NH; sister, Rebecca Finnegan of Newburyport, MA; brother, James Finnegan and wife, Patricia of Ashburnham, MA; brother, Matt Finnegan and wife, Debbie of Brookfield, MA; mother-in-law, Isobel Booth; brothers-in-law, Joseph Muffoletto of Baltimore, MD, James Muffoletto of Stow, MA, Edward Booth of Boxborough, MA, David Booth of Elko, NV, and Andrew Booth and wife, Karen Booth of Elmwood, TN; Claude Vernatter, of Shirley, MA; sisters-in-law, Janet and husband, Brian, Suzanne Daniels and husband, Craig of Littleton, MA. And a countless number of aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews and close friends. She will be missed by her two favorite four-legged companions, Bella and Mucca.
Martha grew up in Stow, MA and graduated from Nashoba Regional High School, class of 1976. She experienced New England and lived in various towns in the area. She held assorted jobs throughout the years before settling on her dream job, her life purpose, motherhood. Martha felt that she was meant to be a mother and that was what she truly loved. With the love of her life, Hugh, they created a beautiful family which became their foundation of all things important to them.
Martha was selfless and gave her time to various community activities, including but not limited to school, TOP Soccer, and Relay for Life. She thrived when she was using her passion to help fuel children’s imagination and creativity. She especially enjoyed helping with a program called Destination Imagination and visiting classrooms to teach craft projects.
Martha had a unique ability to be a best friend to many. She cherished each one of her diverse and special friendships. One of her greatest characteristics was her compassion for others, which often surpassed any concern for herself. She loved the holidays and created experiences that were magical for her loved ones. Over the years, she enjoyed crafting, photography, and scrapbooking. Her creativity showed in her work. She loved to plan multi-family vacations and liked to spend time with many. Martha was loved by all that knew her, and she will be missed.
Martha’s family would like to express their appreciation for her family and friends and their supportive help, caring, prayers and love during Martha’s illness.
Family and friends will gather to honor and remember Martha on Friday, September 9, 2022, from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Fowler-Kennedy Funeral Home, 42 Concord St., Maynard. A celebration of life will be held for Martha on Saturday, September 10, 2022, from 12:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. at the Bull Run Restaurant, 215 Great Rd, Shirley. Burial will be private.
Any memorial tributes can be made in the form of charitable donation to the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute; Clear Path for Veterans New England; or any personal favorite charity.
