November 4, 1928 — April 21, 2023

Stow

Marion C. (Hojem) Purinton, age 94, of Stow, passed away peacefully on Friday, April 21, 2023. She was the loving wife of the late March G. Purinton, Jr.

Marion was born in Concord, Massachusetts, on November 4, 1928, daughter of the late Martin and Karine (Kristoffersen) Hojem.  She was raised and educated in Concord, graduating from Concord High School in the class of 1947.

Marion and March married on May 5, 1949, and settled in Concord where they raised their family.  Marion worked for the Concord public school system for over twenty years as a cafeteria worker.  She enjoyed many close relationships with the students she saw on a daily basis.

Family was most important to Marion. She cherished her camping trips across the country with her husband March in their fifth wheel camping trailer, and also enjoyed camping on weekends with family and friends.  Marion was an exceptional baker.  Family and friends especially cherished her Christmas cookies, breads, and delightful baked goods. All her culinary creations were made with love, many of which were made from her favorite Norwegian recipes.  She enjoyed knitting baby blankets, sweaters, and hats, as well as crocheting afghans and blankets.  Marion loved playing table games like UNO, Skip-Bo, and Dominoes. In her later years, she enjoyed word search puzzles.

Marion, and her husband March, were members of Faith Evangelical Free Church for over seventy years. They enjoyed fellowship with the members and were very involved and active in their church.

Marion is survived by her children Karen Hanson and husband Peter of Concord, MA; David Purinton and wife Kim of Indian Land, SC; Carl Purinton and wife Susan of Maynard, MA; eight grandchildren and thirteen great grandchildren. She was predeceased by her siblings Robert S. Hojem of Acton, MA, and Sigrun E. Woodin of Concord, MA, and her great grandson Andrew P. Burgher of Bow, NH.

Family and friends will gather to honor and remember Marion on Friday, May 5, 2023 from 5:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. at the Fowler-Kennedy Funeral Home, 42 Concord Street, Maynard.
