Margaret R. (Carr) Fredrickson

Margaret R. "Peggy" (Carr) Fredrickson, age 80, of Sudbury, passed away peacefully Friday, February 23, 2018. She was the loving wife of the late Paul Burton Fredrickson.

Born in Binghamton, New York on February 1, 1938, she was the daughter of the late Andrew B. and Dorothy Olive (Tarrant) Carr. Peggy was raised and educated in the Village of New Scotland, New York. She graduated from State University of New York in Albany with a Bachelor's Degree in Mathematics. Peggy returned to college in 1990 and received another Bachelor's degree in Communication Arts from Framingham State College with a special emphasis in television production.

Peggy and Paul were married in 1959. They moved to Sudbury in 1962 and raised their family. She taught middle school math and science for several years and later established and ran the Northedge Nursery School in Sudbury from 1966 to 1986. Peggy worked as Coordinator of Local Access Television for Sudbury Cablevision studio for many years. She was active in a variety of community organizations, including the Town Cable Committee, League of Women Voters, Town Strategic Planning Task force, and a variety of roles with the Sudbury Historical Society including President and Treasurer. She was also certified in Solar Heating and Installation technology, and worked as a Conservation Trainer at the People's Energy Resource Cooperative in Framingham.

From the time she moved to Sudbury, Peggy was an active member of St. John Lutheran Church. Peggy and Paul also enjoyed sailing and completed a US Coast Guard navigation course together. An avid reader, Peggy most enjoyed books about religion, politics, and history. Peggy's other interests included researching the history of Viking exploration in Canada and Iceland, which included trips to Newfoundland, Norway and Iceland. She was also active in the Sons of Norway, Norumbega Lodge, Boston for a number of years.

Peggy is survived by daughters Kristen and husband Stephen Bankuti of Sudbury, MA; Karen and husband Stephen Umbrell of Maynard, MA; Ellen and husband Geoffrey Zweig of Scarsdale NY; six grandchildren Olivia and Molly Bankuti, Jeffrey and Sara Umbrell, and Maxwell and Vivian Zweig. Also survived by her younger sister Arlene and husband Jacob Herzog, Jr. of Slingerlands, NY, as well as many nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her elder sister Patricia Longtin and her husband Thomas, of Slingerlands, NY.

Family and friends will gather to honor and remember Peggy on Thursday, March 1, 2018 from 4:00-8:00 p.m. at the Fowler-Kennedy Funeral home, 42 Concord Street, Maynard, MA. Her memorial service will be celebrated at 10:00 am on March 2, 2018 at St. John Lutheran Church, 16 Great Rd, Sudbury, MA, followed by a reception in Heritage Hall. Burial will be private.

In lieu of flowers, gifts in Peggy's name may be made to St. John Lutheran Church Memorial Fund (16 Great Rd, Sudbury, MA 01776) or to the Sudbury Historical Society (322 Concord Rd #2, Sudbury, MA 01776).
