Joyce (Torgersen) Bunce, aged 81, of Orlando, Florida (formerly of Stow, Massachusetts), passed away peacefully on Sunday, May 10, 2026, at AdventHealth East Orlando Hospital, surrounded by her family.
Joyce was an avid gardener and ran the Stow Community Gardens for around 20 years. Believing that no one should be denied access to fresh produce, she grew multiple plots of organic fruits and vegetables for the Stow Food Pantry. She loved doing good works to serve and support her community. She served as an officer of the Stow Garden Club and volunteered at the Stow Food Pantry.
Joyce was the beloved wife of the late Eugene B. Bunce. She relished being a grandmother and great-grandmother and spending time with and doting on the children that brought so much joy into her life. She loved nature and loved her husband, family, friends, and community.
Born in Huntington, New York on October 26, 1944, to Louise Marie (Elsbeck) Torgersen and John Torgersen. Raised in Melville, New York. She graduated from Half Hollow Hills High School in Dix Hills, NY, in 1963. She was the treasurer of Bunce Industries, Inc. and owned multiple small businesses over the years, specializing in arts, crafts, and antiques.
She is survived by her children, Erik L. Bunce of Orlando, FL, daughter Jennifer Bunce-Stone of Boxborough, MA; her stepchildren, Sandra Wheeler of West Simsbury, CT, Mark Bunce of Gardner, MA, and Craig Bunce of Warrington, PA; 8 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren; along with her siblings, John G. Torgersen, Eric Torgersen, Linda Smorra, and Paula Manngard.
Family and friends will gather to honor and remember Joyce on Friday May 29, 2026, from 6:00 pm – 8:00 pm at Fowler-Kennedy Funeral Home, 42 Concord Street, Maynard. Funeral service, Saturday May 30th at 11:00 am First Parish Church of Stow & Acton on the common at the intersection of Rts. 117 & 62, 353 Great Road, Stow, MA 01775. The burial will follow at Brookside Cemetery Stow.
Memorial donations may be made in Joyce’s name to the Stow Food Pantry at P.O. Box 437, Stow, MA 01775, or the Alzheimer’s Association (alz.org).
