Joseph Bradley Way Jr., age 92, of Pepperell, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, August 2, 2017. He was the loving husband of the late Dorothy Rose (Voght) Way.
Born in Sudbury, Massachusetts on October 21, 1924 he was the son of the late Joseph Bradley Way Sr. and Ruth (LaFramboise) Way. Joseph grew up in Sudbury and attended The Redstone Schoolhouse. He took dancing lessons as a young man at the Wayside Inn and was fortunate enough to meet Henry Ford. He graduated from Sudbury High School class of 1942. Upon graduation, Joseph enlisted in the United States Navy and proudly served his country in WW II. Joseph and Dorothy married on December 20, 1947 and settled in Maynard to raise their family. He worked for Suburban Propane in sales and as a service technician for forty four years, retiring in 1989.
Joseph was a stickler for his daily routine and enjoyed his everyday exercise. He loved spending time at Lake Sherburne in Maine with his family. He also enjoyed puttering in his work shop making bird houses and wood working. He had a passion for music and played saxophone for forty three years in a band called Suburbanaires, which was an eighteen piece dance band that started in Sudbury. He enjoyed spending time at the Pepperell Senior Center visiting and meeting new friends. He spent several of his retirement years playing golf with his many golf buddies, playing tennis with his friends and his daughter, Joanne, and helping his neighborhood friends with their yard care. Joseph enjoyed an active and multi-faceted life.
He is survived by his two daughters Joanne and husband James Rogan of Littleton, MA; Susan and husband Bruce Campbell of Pepperell, MA; six grandchildren, Jason, Heidi, Bradley, Michael, Jennifer and Heather; ten great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews; and his good friend Rita Bessett. Joseph was predeceased by his four sisters Ruth, Doris, Jane and his twin sister Caroline.
Family and friends will gather to honor and remember Joseph on Tuesday, August 8, 2017 from 10:00 -12:00 p.m. at the Fowler-Kennedy Funeral Home, 42 Concord Street, Maynard. Funeral Service will follow at 12:00 p.m. at the Fowler-Kennedy Funeral Home. Burial with military honors will follow at Edgell Grove Cemetery and Mausoleum 53 Grove St, Framingham, MA 01701
