John R. Salvo

John R. Salvo, age 71, of Maynard, passed away peacefully on Saturday, April 22, 2023.

John was born at Waltham Hospital in Waltham, Massachusetts on March 5, 1952, son of the late John G. and Mary N. (Luongo) Salvo. He was raised in Belmont, graduating from Belmont High School, class of 1970. John continued his education at UMass Boston, earning his Bachelor’s Degree in English.

John volunteered at the Walter E. Fernald Developmental Center in Waltham for many years befriending residents as he helped transport them back and forth to mass on Sundays.  John’s most beloved place was Little Squam Lake in Holderness, New Hampshire. There, he spent countless joyful times from childhood through adulthood fishing, boating, and eating delicious meals with his extended Italian family. Though he was not a cook (he jokingly said it skipped his generation) he made a delicious eggplant parmigiana!

He enjoyed music, notably the Allman Brothers Band and Eric Clapton, attending many concerts with friends and family in his youth.

John was sentimental about family heirlooms passed down through the generations, his home was furnished with hand-me-downs which all had stories to tell. He was an avid yard sale attendee searching out political buttons, memorabilia and records.
A life-long New Englander, John was a sports fan, following the Red Sox, Bruins, Patriots and Celtics.

John is survived by his son, Matthew M. Salvo and wife Adrienne N. Soma of Maynard, MA; his daughter, Renee C. Salvo and husband Zareh A. Melkonian Jr., of Maynard, MA; and Lisa Salvo Resnick, mother of his two children, of Concord, MA. He was predeceased by his brother, Michael J. Salvo.

Family and friends will gather to honor and remember John on Sunday, May 7, 2023, from 2:00 - 4:00 pm at the Fowler-Kennedy Funeral Home, 42 Concord Street, Maynard, MA. Burial will be private.
