Janet R. (McGarry) Wattu

October 8, 1943 — April 28, 2023

Janet Ruth (McGarry) Wattu died April 28, 2023, at the age of 79.

Janet was born October 8, 1943, in Bath, ME. Raised in Maynard MA, she was a graduate of Maynard High School class of 1961 and a graduate of Chandler School for Women class of 1962. She married her high school sweetheart, David G. “Bo” Wattu, on April 4, 1964. They eventually moved to Marlborough MA, where they raised their two daughters, Laura and Deborah, and she would live there for the majority of her life. In addition to raising her girls, she worked in various secretarial and administrative roles at Mitre Corp. in Bedford, Lincoln Labs in Natick and at several different locations of Digital Corporation before health issues forced her retirement in 1996.

She enjoyed gardening, reading, playing bridge and rummy, knitting and sewing, jigsaw puzzles, a glass or two of wine, and anything sweet. She always had music playing and would frequently sing along. Her family loved the sound of her laugh, the sight of her beautiful smile and marveled at her resilience and attitude in the face of challenges. Fond memories include her victory celebration upon taking a hand at cards, her sayings for every occasion, the constant bowl of Werther’s candies for the young and young at heart, and having a stash of biscuits for visiting pups.

She is survived by her daughter Laura Cole and son-in-law Jeremy Cole of Upton, MA; her daughter Deborah del Puerto and son-in-law Guillermo del Puerto of Clemmons, NC; her granddaughters, Jessica del Puerto and Erin del Puerto, and her brother, Bruce McGarry, of Hudson, MA.

She is predeceased by her husband, David Wattu, her sister, Barbara Barrett, and her parents, Doris and Robert McGarry.

Burial services will be private.
