James E. Pyne, age 80 of Maynard, passed away peacefully on Sunday, May 23, 2021. James was the loving husband of Bettina L. (VandenHeuvel) Pyne.
Born in Boston, Massachusetts, on December 3, 1940, James was the son of the late James Edward and Mary Angus (Kelly) Pyne. James was raised in Cambridge, and graduated from Cambridge High and Latin School, class of 1958. James went on to attend Northeastern University and graduated with the class of 1972, where he earned his bachelor's degree in Correctional Practice. James and Bettina married on May 28, 1977 in Belmont and settled in Maynard to raise their family together.
James worked as a Lieutenant Correctional Officer at MCI- Concord for thirty five years, retiring in December 1998.
Family was most important to James. He cherished time spent on Milton Three Ponds in Lebanon, Maine at the family home. James loved boating and entertaining family and friends. Especially his Thompson Street friends. He had a passion for classic car's and loved cruising in his 1972 Chevrolet Chevelle. James was a member of the Maynard Lodge of Elks for many years.
James is survived by his wife, Bettina L. Pyne of Marlborough, MA; his children, James E. Pyne of Pittsfield, MA; Victoria E. Nellany and husband Jeffrey T. of Braintree, MA; Amanda K. Pyne of Worcester, MA; Ashley P. Levit and husband Gabe of Ridgefield, CT; his brother, Joseph E. Pyne of Cambridge, MA; and his seven cherished grandchildren. He was predeceased by his son Michael P. Pyne and brother John W. Pyne.
Family and friends will gather to honor and remember James on Thursday, May 27, 2021 from 5:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. at the Fowler-Kennedy Funeral Home, 42 Concord Street, Maynard.
