Herbert W. Mallinson

Herbert W. Mallinson, age 93, of Maynard, passed peacefully on Saturday, September 2, 2023.  Herb was born in Concord, Massachusetts on May 5, 1930, to the late James H. and Lillian M. (Garlick) Mallinson.  He was raised and educated in Maynard, graduating from Maynard High School class of 1948.  Upon graduation, Herb enlisted in the United States Navy and proudly served his country as a Hospital Corpsman from 1951-1955 during the Korean Conflict.  Herb and Margaret married on July 8, 1956.  Herb went on to attend Boston University, earning a BS & Masters Degrees in Nursing.

Herb was a psychiatric nursing instructor at McLean Hospital, an Assistant Director of Nursing Education at Metropolitan State Hospital and a Nursing Unit Administrator at Bedford V.A.  He also worked part time for in network marketing for many years. 

Herb enjoyed playing tennis, running, time at the gym, yoga and Tai Chi. One of his great joys was playing cards & board games with family & friends. His positive outlook and zest for laughter was contagious to those around him. Marge and Herb had a passion for dancing, especially square dancing.  Herb was an active member of the Maynard Union Congregational Church for over 60 years, serving as a Sunday school teacher, choir member, and as a committee member of Christian Education, finance, and trustees; most notably, Herb was a Deacon Emeritus.

Herb is survived by his wife, Margaret (Crowe) Mallinson of Maynard, MA; his children, Todd Mallinson and wife Tina of Ithaca, NY; Scott Mallinson and wife Jane of Chester NH; Dawn Waddell and husband Rob of Holliston, MA;  his six grandchildren (Christopher, Nicholas, Ryan, Troy, Cameron and Mark), a great granddaughter (Lily) and nephew (David Smith) . Herb was predeceased by his sister Mildred Haas.
