Garrison E. Crowell

April 30, 1945 — May 13, 2025

Maynard

Garrison E. Crowell, age, 80 of Maynard, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, May 13, 2025.

Garrison was born in Boston, Massachusetts on April 30, 1945, son of the late George E. Crowell D.M.D and Mildred (Hovey) Crowell. He was raised and educated in Concord, graduating from The Cambridge School of Weston, class of 1963. Garrison attended the Franklin Institute for mechanics.

Garrison's Life and Legacy

Garrison's life was a testament to passion, dedication, and unwavering love for his family. In the late 1960s and early '70s, he embraced the thrill of stock car racing, notably competing at Hudson Speedway in 1969, Norwood Arena in 1979, and thereafter Star Speedway. His collaboration with Jeff Horn in building and racing cars was more than a partnership—it was a shared dream fueled by grease-stained hands and a relentless drive. After leaving auto racing, he continued his involvement in the sport by becoming a sponsor through his construction company. This fervor for mechanics led him to establish a gas station and auto repair shop in Chelmsford, MA, in 1971, where he became a trusted figure in the community.

Transitioning from engines to edifices, Garrison obtained his general contractor license and quickly distinguished himself as a master craftsman in the construction industry. Renowned for his precision, creativity, and integrity, he showcased his exceptional skill as a finish carpenter for over four decades. His work consistently reflected an eye for detail and a deep understanding of form and function—earning him respect among peers and clients alike. For 40 years, he helmed his own construction company, CUSCUF (Call Us 2nd or Call Us 1st), before retiring in 2021. Under his leadership, CUSCUF became known for quality workmanship and honest business practices, with countless structures standing today as quiet testaments to his legacy.

In the 1980s, Garrison constructed several buildings in Belize for the North East Marine Environmental Institute, a foundation affiliated with Woods Hole. These facilities were designed to support marine and environmental education by accommodating US students, as well as high school and college professors conducting research. At the time, the institute was located on a largely undeveloped, jungle-covered island, reflecting the remote and rugged conditions Garrison worked in.

Beyond his professional achievements, Garrison's heart belonged to his family, always putting his kids first. He cherished adventures to Walt Disney World, the sun-kissed shores of Cape Cod, the historic landscapes of Italy, and annual retreats to Maine, Hampton Beach, and Lake Winnipesaukee. His '60s Dodge Charger wasn't just a car; it was a symbol of his enduring love for the open road and the memories forged along the way.

A man of strength and vitality, Garrison found joy in swimming and regular gym visits. His younger years were filled with fishing and camping escapades, often with his children aboard his beloved green canoe. As a father and grandfather, his pride knew no bounds. He reveled in family barbecues, holiday gatherings, and the simple pleasure of watching sports—especially cheering for the Patriots—with a Corona (lime included) or a neat Grand Marnier in hand.

Garrison's legacy is one of kindness, honesty, and generosity. He was the type of man who'd offer the shirt off his back without hesitation. His words were candid, his actions sincere, and his love for his family immeasurable. To know him was to be embraced by warmth, strength, and an enduring spirit that will be deeply missed but forever remembered.

Garrison is survived by his children, Ryan S. Crowell of Maynard, MA; Jessica G. Jarmulowicz and husband Robert M. Jarmulowicz III of Maynard, MA; his grandchildren, Robby IV, Juliette and Logan; his sister, Sheri Brown of Wells, ME; his niece, Nici Lamoreaux Roubo of Wells, ME; his former wife, Jean Garlisi, and his close friend, Gail Jewell, and Garrison was predeceased by his brother, Douglas E. Crowell and brother-in-law, Allen Brown.
