Eldon E. McElhiney III age 79 of Stow, formerly of Waltham, passed away on Thursday, June 18, 2015 at Life Care Center in Acton. He was the husband of Mary (Wodecki) McElhiney.
He was born on July 11, 1935 the son of the late Eldon E., II and Frances H. (Daley) McElhiney of Waltham. He was raised and educated in Waltham, graduating from Waltham High School. He later attended MIT and earned Bachelor of Science Degree from MIT and a Master's Degree in Mechanical Engineering from Northeastern University.
He worked for many years as an engineer for Digital and Polaroid. He was an active member of the Shriners for many years and served as commander for the Boston Commandery, from 1994-1995.
In retirement, Eldon pursued his life's passion for guns and was owner of McElhiney's Guns, a gun and sporting equipment store on Main Street in Waltham, a business he operated with his wife Mary for over two decades. Eldon was well known for his knowledge of and deep respect for fire arms old and new.
He is survived by his loving wife Mary, two brothers Richard F. and Gary P. He is also survived by his children, Richard E., Eldon IV, Steven L. and Lynne M., four grandchildren and six great grandchildren.
At his request, services will be private.
