Earl J. Meader Sr., age 83, of Petersham, formerly of Sudbury, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, December 3, 2024. He was the loving husband of Karen A. (Lofgren) Meader.
Earl was born in Sudbury, Massachusetts on November 22, 1941, son of the late John Oscar and Eleanor R. (Stone) Meader. He was raised and educated in Sudbury. Earl and Karen married on November 5, 1960, and settled in Sudbury to raise their family together.
Earl followed his passion in agriculture, becoming an associate with Borden company distributing bulk limestone to golf courses, city and town common areas/fields, apple orchards and farms.
Earl spent several decades cultivating and selling high-quality hay, a testament to his hard work and commitment to sustainable farming. His expertise in agriculture not only supported the local community but also provided essential resources for livestock owners far and wide. Earl’s dedication to farming was more than a job; it was a way of life that brought joy and fulfillment.
Family was always most important to Earl. He also enjoyed snowmobiling, riding horses, family gatherings, going out to dinner and fixing anything with a motor. Later in life he grew a passion for conversations regarding politics.
Earl will be remembered for his tireless work ethic, love for the land, and the legacy of quality hay that will continue to nourish and sustain.
Earl is survived by his wife, Karen Anne Meader, of Petersham, MA; his children, John Anders Meader and wife Sharon of Shrewsbury, MA; David Richard Meader and wife Jennifer of Shrewsbury, MA; Julie Ellen Taylor of Lincoln, MA; Earl John Meader Jr. and wife Jodie of Phillipston, MA; his eight grandchildren, eleven great grandchildren, many nieces and nephews.
Visiting hours will be held on Thursday, December 12, 2024, at 10:00 am – 11:00 am for family and friends to honor and remember Earl John Meader Sr. His funeral service will be held immediately following the visitation at 11:00 am. Private burial will follow at New Town Cemetery in Sudbury.
