Donna M. (Wilson) Sloan

August 20, 1946 — December 2, 2024

Maynard

Donna M. (Wilson) Sloan, age 78, of Maynard, passed away peacefully on Monday, December 2, 2024, surrounded by her loving family. She was the devoted wife of the late John B. Sloan Jr, for thirty-six years.

She was born in Boston on August 20, 1946, daughter of the late Donald W. and Doris M. (Reno) Wilson. Early years were spent in Somerville at her grandparents’ home. She moved to Maynard at the age of 11, graduating from Maynard High School with the Class of 1964. Donna continued her education at Chandler School for Women in Boston, earning a secretarial degree in 1966. Settling into a marriage and raising her two boys kept her out of the work force for quite a few years. When she did get back to the “office”, she worked for many years as a legal assistant at a prominent law firm in Framingham and at a law firm in Melbourne, FL.

Family was most important to Donna. She enjoyed the time spent with her adoring four granddaughters. She held dear the memories of numerous vacations she and John took, whether it be a week on a Caribbean island or a cruise. Every year it was someplace different: two-week honeymoon through the Southwest, a ten-day excursion soaking up the Hawaiian sun and nightlife. Not to mention summer vacations on Cape Cod with family. She and John became “snowbirds” in their retirement years, spending six months on Cape Cod and six months at their Florida home.

Donna is survived by her son, Robert Capone and wife Carol of Maynard, her granddaughters, Jacquelyn Capone of Maynard, Courtney Wesley and husband Evan of Marlborough, Ashley Capone of York Beach, ME and Meagan Capone of Maynard and great grandsons, Connor Capone of Maynard and Jack Wesley of Marlborough, and her son, Kevin Capone and wife Rina, grandsons Chance and James of Smithfield, RI. A supportive and loving second family, step-children Margaret Marves and husband Kenneth of Norton, Sheila Warner and husband David of Indialantic, FL and John B. Sloan III and wife Anita of Leesburg, FL, 13 step-grandchildren and 24 step-great grandchildren. She is also survived by a special cousin, Suzanne French.

In addition to her husband, Donna is predeceased by grandson Justin Capone, step-granddaughter Nichole Fillmore, step-grandson John B. Sloan IV and her cousin Sandra Mocanu.

In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made in Donna’s name to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105. A gift can be made through stjude.org.

Family and friends will gather to honor and remember Donna on Thursday, December 12, 2024, from 5:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. at the Fowler-Kennedy Funeral Home, 42 Concord Street, Maynard. Burial will be private.
