David M. Smart

David M. Smart, age 33, of Westford, formerly of Stow, passed away unexpectedly, surrounded by his loved ones, on Thursday March 30, 2023.

David was born in Concord, Massachusetts on April 1, 1989, to Michael R. Smart and Karen T. (Cummings) Smart.  He was raised and educated in Stow, graduating from Nashoba Regional High School, class of 2007.  David continued his education at Middlesex Community College, graduating with honors.  He later attended the University of Massachusetts Lowell, graduating magna cum laude class of 2020, earning his Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering.

He worked as a Mechanical Engineer for Company SI2 Technologies, Inc. for years almost 4 years, starting as a college internship with them in June 2019.  From 2016-2018 he was also a math and physics peer tutor at Middlesex Community College, where he discovered he had great enjoyment for teaching and had thoughts of teaching after his retirement.

David had a passion for music; he especially loved Buckethead and Led Zeppelin, both listening to and playing on his guitars.  David enjoyed yoga, working out, traveling, going to the beach, playing video games, cooking, hiking and camping.  His favorite campsite was Limekiln Lake in Inlet, NY where he and his mom vacationed every summer for the last 14 years.  He also enjoyed oil painting and spicy foods.  David cherished his girlfriend, Heather, and spending time with his cats, Hunter and Frank. 

David is survived by his mother, Karen T. Smart and her fiancé David L. Hand of Palmyra, NY; his father, Michael R. Smart and his wife Candi Daniel of Alabama and his 2 brothers, Michael Ross Smart, Jr. and Joshua John Smart; his grandmother, Kathleen M. Cummings of Stow, MA; his grandmother, Margaret Smart-Sanders of Madison, AL; his girlfriend, Heather Wilson of Westford, MA; and many aunts, uncles and cousins.

Family and friends will gather to honor and remember David on Thursday, April 6, 2023, from 5:00 - 8:00 pm at the Fowler Kennedy Funeral Home, 42 Concord Street, Maynard, MA.
