Daniel J. McCarthy, age 92, of Quincy, formerly of Sudbury, passed away peacefully on Thursday, January 1, 2026. He was the loving husband of the late Jeanne M. (Sheridan) McCarthy.
Daniel was born in Belmont, Massachusetts on July 12, 1933, son of the late Cornelius J. and Mary B. (Riordan) McCarthy. He was raised and educated in Belmont, graduating from Boston College High School, class of 1951 where he played on the hockey team as a defenseman. Daniel continued his education at Northeastern University, with a Bachelor’s of Electrical Engineering, class of 1956. Daniel and Jeanne were married September 14, 1957. They moved to Sudbury in 1959 and raised their family.
Daniel worked at Raytheon – Wayland for a few years before transferring to Microwave Associates Inc., in 1960. Dan was critical in the development of live television broadcasting equipment and partnering with the local Boston networks of ABC, CBS and NBC. In the 70’s and 80’s, he collaborated with his colleagues at M/A Com, in the development of live broadcasting for cable networks in New England and New York state, along with local colleges and universities. He represented his company as National Sales Mgr. for all of the major networks and their affiliates in the New England/Boston area, New York, Pittsburgh, Harrisburg and mid-Atlantic regions. Dan’s passion for working with his colleagues and customers was appreciated across the industry.
Daniel was a founding member of The Greenwood Club in Sudbury and enjoyed playing tennis and organizing tennis tournaments with members. He was an avid skier into his early 80’s. Daniel was a hockey referee for Sudbury youth hockey for many years. He enjoyed sailing, golf and woodworking.
Daniel is survived by his four children, Maureen McCarthy of Quincy; Carolyn and the late Mark Place of Nashua, NH; Daniel J. McCarthy Jr. and his wife Doreen of Sudbury; Ann McDonald of Quincy; his cherished grandchildren, Michele, Jordan, Tyler and Brittany; and his six great grandchildren. Daniel was predeceased by his siblings, Cornelius McCarthy, Mary (McCarthy) Keenan and John McCarthy.
A Funeral Mass to honor Daniel’s life will be held on Thursday, January 15, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at Our Lady of Fatima Church; The Ascension Parish of Sudbury, 160 Concord Road, Sudbury. Burial will follow at Mount Pleasant Cemetery in Sudbury.
