Caroline (Carol) Ursula Durr, 88 of Maynard, MA formerly of Brewster, MA, died December 12, 2022, unexpectedly. She is predeceased by her husband of 58 years, Frederick Durr and her twin sister, Ann McTavish.
Daughter of the late William and Edith Guinness. She was born in Jersey City, NJ and was raised in Plainfield, NJ. She is a graduate of the University of Pennsylvania. She met her husband while attending the University of Wisconsin for her Master's in Microbiology.
After her children were grown, Carol obtained her graduate degree from the Long Island University with a Master's in Library Science, which she put to use in her work at American Cyanamid Research in Pearl River, NY.
She raised her family in Ridgewood, NJ and after retirement, she and her husband moved to Cape Cod and enjoyed winters in Florida. They loved to travel throughout Europe and the United States.
Carol enjoyed playing the piano, painting, birding, gardening, knitting, singing in the Our Lady of the Cape choir and volunteering at the church thrift store. She was an avid reader and member of the book club at Camellia Gardens and loved doing the daily crossword puzzles and Sudoku. She was a great supporter of her granddaughter, attending her Volleyball games.
She is survived by her children Deborah Cheyne (Gordon) of West Nyack, NY, David Durr of Redway, CA, John Durr (Susan) of Westwood, NJ, and Katherine Torilli (Paul) of Stow, MA, her sister in-law Luise Durr of Mt Holly, VT; and her grandchildren Alexander Durr (Kenisha) of Glenn Heights, TX, Siena Torilli of Stow, great grandchildren Nikolai and Khlaire Durr both of Glenn Heights, TX and her furry companion, McDuff.
Visitation will be held Sunday, December 18, 2022, 1:00-3:00 PM at Fowler and Kennedy Funeral Home, 42 Concord Street, Maynard, MA
Funeral Mass will be held at Our Lady of Fatima Parish/Ascension, 160 Concord Road, Sudbury, MA, Monday, December 19, 2022, 10:00 AM
A burial will take place in Brewster, MA at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, donations to the ASPCA or The Society of Saint Vincent DePaul via Our Lady of the Cape, Brewster, MA.
