Carol Ann (Kopp) Clayton

Carol Ann (Kopp) Clayton, age 89, of Stow, passed away peacefully on Monday, July 7, 2025. She was the wife of the late John Clayton Jr.

Carol was born in Maynard, Massachusetts on August 29, 1935, daughter of the late John W. and Elizabeth M. (Malcolm) Kopp. She was raised and educated in Maynard, graduating from Maynard High School, class of 1953. Carol and John married on February 19, 1954, and settled in Stow in 1963, to raise their growing family.

Carol had a passion for volunteering. She volunteered at Emerson Hospital for many decades. In the 1970’s and 1980’s she also volunteered for Stow EMS and was a Stow Police matron. The couple enjoyed traveling together, especially to Florida and the White Mountains. Carol enjoyed knitting, candlepin bowling, and was a Ham Radio Operator.

Carol is survived by her children, Sue Amero and husband Bob of Townsand, MA; Jackie Held and husband Bill of East Nassau, NY; her brother-in-law Bill Clayton and wife Maila of Conway, SC; her grandchildren Jen, Kim, Deb, Kenzie, and 5 great grandchildren. Carol was predeceased by her daughter, Dianne G. Clayton-Macheski and grandson Alex Held.

Carol’s celebration of life will be announced at a later date.
