Alice M. (Hanson) Pillivant, age 85, of Maynard, passed away peacefully on Sunday, July 30, 2023 – surrounded by her family. She was the loving wife of the late Garrett A. Pillivant with whom she was married to for 50 years.
Alice was born in Concord, Massachusetts, on May 1, 1938, daughter of the late Henry T. and Alice R. (McDonald) Hanson. She was a lifelong Maynard resident, graduating from Maynard High School, class of 1955. Upon graduation, Alice continued her education at the Chandler School for Women. Alice and Garry married on October 26, 1957. She continued her education at Boston University earning her BS in Business Administration, class of 1980. She was determined to graduate from college before any of her daughters.
Alice worked for Digital Equipment Corporation for 22 years. After leaving Digital, Alice and Garry opened Gramps’ Garage in downtown Maynard in 1996. They loved seeing the smiles on children as they drove their Power Wheels, especially during the Maynard Christmas parade. The business closed a few years after Garry’s passing.
She loved Maynard and was involved in the town by serving as a finance committee member, being active in the Chamber of Commerce and working the voting polls.
Family was most important to Alice and her door was always open to family and friends. She enjoyed her time in FL where so much family was close by during the winter months.
She was an avid Red Sox and Patriots fan. She loved being a member of the Maynard-Clinton Lodge of Elks. Her happy place was sitting by her pool in her backyard, enjoying company stopping by, looking at her flowers and watching the hummingbirds.
Alice is survived by her children, Mary Alice Perkins of Lunenburg, MA; Susan Elms and husband John of Boulder, CO; Cathy Currie and partner Randy Sabatino of Maynard, MA; Linda Silkonis and husband Michael of Maynard, MA; her siblings, Jeanne Hanson of Dracut, MA; John Hanson of Hudson, FL; her grandchildren, Alan Elms, Kevin Perkins, Trevor Elms, Helen Silkonis, Victoria Alice Silkonis; her great-granddaughter, Hope Aurora Elms; her sister-in-law, Wilma Hanson of Maynard, MA. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews who loved their Auntie. She was predeceased by her grandson Paul Perkins and brother James Hanson.
Family and friends will gather to honor and remember Alice on Friday, August 4, 2023 from 4:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. at the Fowler-Kennedy Funeral Home, 42 Concord Street, Maynard. Her Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, August 5, 2023 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Bridget’s Parish, One Percival Street, Maynard followed by a gathering at the Maynard-Clinton Lodge of Elks, 34 Powder Mill Road, Maynard, MA – all are welcome. Burial will be private at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in memory of Alice M. Pillivant to the Maynard-Clinton Lodge of Elks.
